Anaïs Jourdan is a photographer based in Dorset who specializes in analogue photography. Her current work
explores the profound effects of religion as she documents the process of
leaving the Mormon church. Anaïs uses symbolism, metaphors and self-portraiture
to visualize the complex emotions of guilt, fear and shame she has been left
with since leaving the church she was part of for sixteen years. Her
photo-making process allows space to express the psychological and emotional
aspects of leaving this religion. Her work acknowledges the past and sheds
light on the internal struggles individuals may face who share similar
experiences. Through her practice, Anaïs is relearning what it means to be a
woman beyond the “divine” duties of marriage and motherhood.
